Smith Snatches Veep Seat at NASPA Elections

Mr. Lewis Smith, Veep – NASPA, Kwadaso

One of the enthusiastic former students of the College of Technology, COLTEK, Mr. Lewis Smith has won the race to the Vice President Office of the Kwadaso Municipal National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) with 19 votes to spare.

The elections which were held at the Kwadaso Presbyterian Church on November 12, 2020 also saw various individuals elected to occupy other positions such as President, Women Commissioner among others.

Speaking after the declaration of results, Mr Smith was optimistic that the administration with the support of its members will achieve a lot as various programmes and activities will be deployed to the benefits of the members and the municipality.

The newly elected vice president, commending his colleagues for the contest said, “We need their support, their massive support, because after all the elections, it is NASPA who has won the elections and not the individuals. So we have to come together as one and build a formidable NASPA”.

Meanwhile, when asked about his plans and objectives for the association, Mr Smith indicated that, aside the numerous programmes prepared by the National and Regional offices, he will in conjunction with the rest of the executive bring to the door steps of the members in the Kwadaso Municipality, remedial or extra tuition for those who will be writing their Licensure Examinations at the end of the service coupled with making available the registration of members who are yet to have their Tax Identification Numbers and other relevant documents.

“One thing I’ve realized most of that is, the personnel are having an education background, so we are going to organize Licensure Classes for the personnel for them to enroll and also give them the memories that is what they learnt in school, give them a feedback of what they learnt though it could come at a cost.”

The Vice President further indicated his desire to see all personnel, adequately equipped with skills that can aid them in creating jobs and contributing to the national development.

“I am thinking of a NASPA that is skills development. We are coming to give the requisite skills to the personnel so that even after the service, they can decide to work on their own or without white-colour job.”

“You know right now, the development or the job opportunities are less so, if they have one or two skills on their own, it will give them something to earn rather than depending on government or one or two people” he added.

Additionally, the new vice president is poised to bring to the door steps of his colleagues, services such as acquisition of Tax Identification Number (TIN) among others before the end of his tenure.

“Bringing them NASPA service such as TIN, Birth Certificate and NHIS. We know one thing in Ghana now is, if you are not having Tax Identification Number, that is TIN, it is very difficult to have access to banking issues and even hard to register a company.”

Meanwhile, Mr Smith on behalf of the newly formed executive showered praise on the outgone executives, led by Mr Kevin Frimpong Adu-Sarfo, a former student of COLTEK.
