The Debate Society of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has shortlisted eight (8) Associations, presenting 2 teams each, for their annual Inter-Departmental Debate Championship, The Platform.
The Platform is a replica of the British Parliament (BP) type of debate with motions set just some 15 minutes to the actual debate event.
In an interaction with the host of Campus Filla, Kojo Madiba, President of the Debate Society, Bridget Ntiwah Andoh hinted that the championship should have taken place during the first semester but due to COVID-19 predicaments coupled with the electioneering procedures, the program needed to be pushed to the second semester.
“It is an inter-departmental championship which comes off every first semester but because of election-related issues during last semester, the Society couldn’t organize it; so we decided to have it this semester.”
The tournament which starts with four preliminaries rounds will be held at the Opoku Ware JCRC on Tuesday June 15 and Wednesday June 16, 2021, between ASSOL, MASA, HOSSAG, AMESS, METSA, Electricals, INFOTESS and ASA.
From the preliminaries, 8 teams will qualify straight to the Semi Finals to be hosted at the Atwima JCRC on June 22 with the grand finale comprising 4 teams to be held at the New Auditorium on June 27.
According to Miss Ntiwah Andoh, getting leadership of the various departments to present their representatives for the scheduled training which will enable them to be adequately equipped for the tournament had been their major challenge.
Meanwhile, the External Relations Officer (ERO) of the Society, Gideon Ganah reiterated the need to scrutinize the participants thoroughly since not everyone could be considered as a good debater.
