The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) which is a pace setter in Distance Education in Ghana has added on to its innovative ways of delivering distance education, a New Mobile App to be accessed by its numerous distance students across the country.
This innovation is a mobile application; called “UEW Distance App” created by the Information Technology Services Directorate of the University and can be found on Google Play Store.
The mobile application, according to the Director of the Institute for Educational Development and Extension (IEDE), Professor Edward Kwame Asante, is in line with delivering on the university’s 2014-2018 strategic plan which enjoins IEDE, to convert its distance education course modules into online learning modules and mount them on the Moodle Learning Management System to supplement the hard copy course modules. Distance students can now have access to their course modules on their electronic tablets, labtops, mobile phones among others. This gives relevance to the electronic tablet supplied to distance students.
According to the Information Technology Services Directorate, the University of Education, Winneba Distance App is user friendly with unique features such as video conferencing, forums, chats, assignments, among others, and will make tutorial materials accessible as well as enhance students learning.
The Systems Administrator, I.T. Services Directorate, Mr. Nicholas Donkor, who led the team in the development and implementation of the mobile App, urged Distance students to utilize the mobile App since a lot of work went into making it a reality and that the Directorate is poised to serve students and contribute its quota in delivering the core mandate of the University of Education, Winneba.
